Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of program is this?

This program is focused on facilitating formal mentorship relationships between credit union employees across Manitoba and creating opportunities for selected mentees to connect with mentors successfully.

What will be the benefit of this program?

This program will strengthen and build connections, enhance self-awareness, deepen professional networks, develop leadership skills, and encourage sharing of knowledge and experiences.

Who are the mentors?

All mentors are experienced leaders within the Manitoba credit union system, including executives, CEOs, and many former members of the CUYLM Executive Team.

Can I choose my own mentor?

No, but upon reviewing the mentee’s application, the CUYLM Executive Team will use the mentee’s preferred development areas to best match with a mentor’s areas of expertise.

How will the mentorship program be conducted?

Selected mentees will be connected to their mentors via an introduction email. Each pair will be provided with resources and guidelines for the relationship, along with a mentorship agreement that will indicate their meeting format and frequency. The mentorship program is mentee-driven, so mentees are encouraged to use the provided resources to develop and follow their action plan.

Do I need to share my DISC Assessment with my mentor?

Yes – the purpose of providing the DISC assessment is to help support the mentorship experience and to enhance self-awareness and communication.

Do I get a certificate or testimonial after completing this program?

Upon successful completion of the mentorship program, CUYLM will issue a Certificate of Completion to all mentees, along with guidelines on how to showcase it on LinkedIn. Mentors will also receive a token of appreciation as a gesture of gratitude for their contributions. Additionally, a feedback survey will be distributed to both mentors and mentees to gather insights for continuous program improvement.

How long the program will be?

The program will last between six and nine months.

Do I have to make a commitment to complete this program?

Yes, because mentees are carefully selected out of many applications, and mentors volunteer their time and expertise despite their busy schedules.

What can I do if I wish to change my mentor?

In the event the mentee, mentor, or both feel like the relationship is not a match, they should bring this to the attention of the CUYLM Executive Team at CUYLM@cucm.org. The team will assess the situation and provide guidance or resolution.

Who is eligible to apply for this program?

To be eligible, applicants must be self-motivated, committed to the program, employed within the Manitoba credit union system, and have approval from their direct manager to participate.

Note: We encourage individuals of all ages to apply for the mentorship program. While priority will be given to applicants aged 40 and under, if capacity allows, we remain open to considering those over 41 who can demonstrate a compelling need for the mentorship program.
